Sri Chinmoy race 2 - Centennial Park - Monday 24 March 2008 8am

It was pouring down - the park looked flooded but a valiant team of AE members took on the challenge of the second Sri Chinmoy race - this time in our home ground - Centennial park. By the time the first race started (14Ks) it had ceased raining and some blue sky appeared from somewhere. Many members had said they would be racing but the rain reduced the throng down to a trickle. Two in the 14K and two in the 7K. There was also a 4K run but that's for young kids.... plus did I mention it was cross country - the whole way looping around the ponds and tracks of the park.

Congrats to all finishers - it was tough going. Next race is 18 May at Iron Cove which clashes with the SMH Half so not sure who will attend. 16k/8k/4k www.srichinmoyraces.org/au/events

Extra Training Night for Fun Runners

You asked for it Fun Runners.... so we will trial an additional night of squad training..

THURSDAY EVENINGS - 6.30PM AT PADDINGTON GATES

Focus will be on distance racing - tempo/interval/speedwork/hills.
Always challenging but fun at the same time - $5 - bring water and wear light coloured clothing.

Start Thurs 27 Marc. Monday night sessions will not change.

2008 Corporate Games - Parramatta Park

A very warm Saturday morning at Parramatta Park and an early start for all of us from the east but we made it! Registered and warmed up by the long walk from the car park to the rego centre and then the team splits into 5K and 10K runners...... we head off in different directions to our relative starting points on the somehwt circular 3K circuit.

The 10K gun didn't go off so the started screamed out "GO" and off we went - for the 10K runners it was 3 full loops plus about a one K extra - so that meant three hills at least and 4 times past the cheer squad at the finish line. The lucky 5K runners only had 1.5 loops.... with just one hill.

Sally L and Ken C headed off valiantly and were heading for a great finish but the hills got to them over the course. With sheer determination they both resisited the urge to slow down and both gained great results. In the 5K the walkers/runners worked hard - talking about the breakfast plans and strutting out and giving encouragement to the 10K runners as they passed by. The aim was NOT to be lapped by the 10K runners. Most made it. Our over 70 contingent did well again - winning their age groups - American Express can be proud of all the points we gathered for them in just one sport.

Thanks to Sue R for arranging the teams, Rosemary B for collecting gear and to our cheer squad for all their words of wisdom.... MYFA rules

AEFRs - remember we have a trial of Thursday evening run squad training sessions starting March 27. 6.30pm in the park with a focus on distance races.
